I CAN EXPLAIN THIS so basically there’s this type of bonnet called a ‘poke bonnet’ and they look like this:

and in the regency there was this trend of the front part getting longer and longer until you couldn’t really see the wearer’s face… and people have been mean for all history and love to really deride and rip into the fashion trends of young women, so satirical cartoons like the one above popped up that were basically trying to say ‘hurr dburr stupid poke bonnets soon we won’t even be able to talk to women unless we stick our damn FACES INSIDE THEIR HATS!’

The largest public housing project in the country is a few blocks north of where the Long Island City headquarters is going and land values are already going up since the announcement. It’s only a matter of time before the people who live there are forced out.

The projects that they will soon be replacing is the Astoria Projects and the Queensbridge projects. I’ve lived in the Astoria projects and my family has lived in those projects since they left the south from being sharecroppers. Don’t let Amazon destroy our black and brown communities. The whole thing makes me just – scream, as someone who actually fucking studied anthropology? Because this is not how anything would’ve happened.

tl;dr for anyone who’s not interested in listening to yelling about bathroom habits: no animal just goes wherever it spends most of its time (with…maybe the exception of aquatic animals, who don’t really have a choice, but probably still try and avoid pooping where they sleep or eat). It’s a deeply-ingrained thing, this aversion to being near bodily wastes, because avoiding that stuff reduces the chances of getting sick. And for humanity specifically, we’ve been making a point of putting the bathroom areas well away from our food and sleeping areas since before we stopped living in caves. The Romans had public outhouses.

Also! Vanishing spells are fifth-year material, and Hermione was having trouble with them!

All discourse aside, the only thing I’m going to say about this whole thing is this:

Firstly, ‘body donation’ is not organ donation. In the United States, there is a very specific process for organ donation run by reputable non-profit organizations that have to pass through a metric fuck ton of bureaucratic red tape in order to have donation approved by family and (in states that run on the Medical Examiner system where the Medical Examiner’s office handles every death that is not ruled a natural death) approved by the government. Organ donation is a time sensitive collection that most commonly involves the harvesting of major organs, the corneas, and some tissue. The amount of requests that donor services make for bones? Marginal compared to any other request they make. 

So please do not let nonsense like this stop you from organ donation. Organ donation can save lives. 


Secondly, ‘body donation’ is not something that you can do lightly and just for shiggles. ‘Body donation’ typically involves an individual donating their body to a scientific institute for research. 

As an individual who attended two scientific institutes that accepted bodies for scientific donation for a combined total of five years, I can tell you from first-hand experience that it is not an easy process. 

By that, I mean that there is a metric fuck ton of paperwork and – you guessed it – 

bureaucratic red tape that you have to navigate in order to even be able to accept human bodies for donation. It’s not an easy process. It’s not a process taken lightly. Every single individual that I have ever trained under and worked with that accepts human bodies for donation in these programs has had more integrity in their pinky finger than half of the human race combined.

There are strict rules and regulations for working with human remains. 

I have personally seen people dismissed from institutions and programs because they were not handling human bodies with the level of respect we are expected to show them.

There are strict guidelines that restrict what research you ethically can and cannot do with the human bodies that have been donated to a scientific program even if the individual themselves has signed and consented to everything before donating their body.

Many places will only accept body donations if they are donated by and the paperwork is signed by the individual themselves before donation occurs.

Unfortunately, the United States has (like with most things) a lack of laws and/or an investigative body that can focus solely on the trafficking and selling of human remains. It’s a horrible practice that is done on popular and regularly used websites and in hole-in-the-wall stores, not just the ‘black market’, and that is something that should not happen. There need to be stricter laws and investigations into these types of purchases and there should be more respect from the general population toward human remains, especially when older remains advertised for sail run the potential to be Native American remains or the remains of old war victims brought back during the World Wars, Vietnam War, etc. 

Simple sales transactions and possession of human remains by people with no respect for human remains are how we get individuals owning skeletons when they should not be. 

‘Body donation’ is a service for scientific fields only that provides further knowledge and application in the field in both living and deceased people. ‘Organ donation’ saves lives in individuals who may not otherwise live or live full healthy lives.

So please, before you go around spreading information that could potentially damage a perfectly legitimate form of donation, do some research. Do not sway people from something as potentially life-saving as organ donation.

Many people continue to think avoiding meat as infrequently as once a week will make a significant difference to the climate. But according to one recent study, even if Americans eliminated all animal protein from their diets, they would reduce US greenhouse gas emissions by only 2.6%.

According to our research at the University of California, Davis, if the practice of Meatless Monday were to be adopted by all Americans, we’d see a reduction of only 0.5%.

Shit its almost like the real problem is corporate greed causing mass pollution on an unimaginable scale.
