For those in AZ – it’s not over yet but Sinema JUST pulled ahead. Hmmm…and I wonder why the Republicans were trying to stop the rest of the votes from being counted.

For those who haven’t been paying attention – Kyrsten Sinema has been behind Martha McSally since the numbers started coming in. BUT 75% of our votes are through mail-in ballots and (surprise surprise) late last night the GOP sued to stop certain counties from being included:

About 75 percent of Arizona voters cast ballots by mail, but those ballots have to go through the laborious signature confirmation process, and only then can be opened and tabulated. If county recorders have issues verifying signatures they are allowed to ask voters to verify their identity.

The suit filed Wednesday by four county Republican parties alleges that the state’s 15 county recorders don’t follow a uniform standard for allowing voters to adjust problems with their mail-in ballots, and that two counties improperly allow those fixes after Election Day.

The GOP complained about the issue before Election Day and threatened to sue. Democrats alleged it was attempted voter suppression and that recorders have followed the same procedures for years with no issues. Republicans said it was about following the law and having a timely ballot count.

The sluggish count is a perennial issue for Arizona, but has rarely received such a high level of attention because the GOP-leaning state generally has had few nationally-watched nail-biting contests. The lawsuit alleges that signature verification must stop when polls close, and seeks an injunction to stop the counting of such ballots that have been verified after then. It’s unclear how many of these votes still remain outstanding, but the suit singles out the state’s two biggest urban counties, the center of support for Sinema.

“The suit singles out the state’s two biggest urban counties.”

Shocking. Anyways for those waiting for the results here’s where it’s at now:

11/9/2018 update:

The GOP lawsuit has been settled this morning, allowing for the rest of the votes to be counted. But of course now that Sinema has pulled ahead Trump decided he now has a problem with Arizona’s election (funny he wasn’t talking about our election integrity the 3 days McSally was ahead but okayyy):

Anyways as usual Trump is just shouting nonsense because literally nothing he said is what’s going on. The reason our results have been taking so long is because 75% of our voters did mail-in ballots and they have to be signature matched which is exactly what the GOP fucking wanted in the first place. Signature match (surprise) is an easy way to suppress the vote of already marginalized groups and of course they tried to sue from votes being counted in our most diverse counties. Trump is so fucking transparent it’s pathetic that anyone even falls for it. (Also this is literally a red state lol if the GOP doesn’t like how our voting process works then that’s on them – they could have )

The Republican parties of four Arizona counties have filed a suit against the Arizona secretary of state and all county recorders over how mail-in votes are verified, the Hill reports.

The GOP plaintiffs argue that various counties are verifying votes differently and note that the process should be more consistent. Some counties call voters after Election Day to verify their ballots, while others don’t, they say. They’re asking for an injunction so that all ballots verified after Election Day can be omitted from any final vote tally — and they’re specifically calling out multiple counties that are seen as Sinema strongholds. But late Thursday night, a federal judge rejected the lawsuit, allowing the count to move forward.

Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes told the Arizona Republic that this kind of post-Election Day timing on verification is commonplace and not quite the anomaly that Republicans have framed it to be. It’s not apparent how many votes would be withheld if a judge sides with the Republicans, but it’s likely to affect places that have been more left-leaning in the past.

If you’re in Arizona make sure to check if your vote was counted. You can do that here. It’s been estimated that we might not know the results until Thursday of next week so you have time!

lauren will you tell us a story

ok heres something

around a year ago someone asked me to draw danny devito as a kitty, spawning this terrible terrible image

time passes. a lot of time passes. then two months ago i get an email from a group of people called FPOAFM doing a pottery installation event, and theyre going around gathering artwork from artists to put onto cups and dishes to sell for an event, in exchange for a few pieces with the artists work on them

and i said SURE you can use some of my stuff … . but in exchange.…  i want something with kitty devito on it. i dont care if you put it on anything else, but one item that i get in return has to have this cat man abomination

i give them my address and a few images and months pass. i forget about it. THEN literally two days ago i get this big package on my doorstep, and INSIDE OF IT…. is the holy grail

in addition to two plates is this incredible porcelain cup with the fabled kitty devito on it, proudly grinning his terrible cat grin

the thing that pushes this cup into the Far Reaches of Awful isnt just the image stamped on it. its that it is one hundred percent made from a mold of a styrofoam cup

its finger pressees on the rim, those little lines going around

and all this jargon on the bottom, right under the glaze. the amount of effort that went into reproducing this styofoam cup is incredible and i can stick it in my shelf and drink soup from it at four in the morning with danny devitos smug cat face looking out over everything i do, forever. follow your dreams

i swear iguanamouth is one of the most powerful people on this website

I’m curious…

reblog if what jkr says is no longer canon to you

For a while now I’ve chosen to believe that JKR has approximately the understanding of wizarding history and international politics that the average British witch of her age would.

I.E. she slept through Binns’ class and barely scraped a passing grade, and maybe has some idea of what’s going on in western Europe but is relying entirely on hearsay, rumor, and propaganda for her understanding of even modern day wizarding societies in Asia, Africa, and the Americas, let alone the magical history of those regions.

Also she can’t do math.
